High-End Results at Drugstore Prices-Real Techniques Setting Brush and Miracle Complexion Sponge

Have you ever thought that you had it all and were content with something until you were introduced to something new?

Being a bargain/frugal shopper, I always pride myself on using inexpensive brushes and tools.  I have been using E.L.F. brushes for about a year now. I love them. Or so I thought until Real Techniques tools were introduced to me.

Real Technique tools are still very affordable and can be found at the drug store or online.  However, the drug store that I frequent does not carry this line of tools, so I was never really exposed to them.  Watching countless YouTube videos of my favourite and beloved beauty gurus (JamiePaigeBeauty, Tati, emilynoel83 & Jaclyn Hill) just to name a few, I was intrigued and impressed by their rave reviews.  If some of the top beauty bloggers/YouTubers are loving them, I should see what all the hype is about!

I bought mine from Amazon for the mere reason that I had a few other purchases to make. The other drug store that carries this line was out of stock and frankly I don’t like shopping at that store.  I picked up the Setting Brush and the Miracle Complexion Sponge.

Both of these products are Award Winning products for Real Techniques.

I have been using these for a good week straight now!   I have not used my ELF setting brush or sponge…and I may never again (as back up maybe).

The Setting Brush:

Real Technique Setting Brush

The name says it all!  It’s small and fits nicely under the eyes for setting concealer.  The brush is soft, and feels nice on the skin.  Considering it is popular for under eye setting, the feel of the brush, in my opinion, should be soft. The skin under the eye is delicate! The brush handle has a nice weight to it, the rubber end allows you to have a nice grip on the brush.  The construction of the brush is great as well.  I have not had any fall out of bristles, the feral has a tight hold on the bristles and I much enjoy that it is one piece.  Less chance of it coming apart.

I will be expanding my brush collection to include more from Real Techniques!

Miracle Complexion Sponge:

Mirale Complexion Sponge

I created the image above for a quick reference for my Facebook and Instagram fans.

There is no denying why this has won countless awards, including the “#1 branded makeup sponge”.

The beauty sponge has always been around and loved my all Makeup Artists and guru’s alike. The ever popular pink sponge has rocked the market for years, however, in all fairness, if you follow the correct hygiene guidelines, Real Techniques official website states “For best results, replace your makeup sponge every 1-3 months”and the price of that little pink sponge will have you breaking the bank!

The Miracle Complexion Sponge is WAY cheaper than the Pink sponge. It is under $10!

I use to use a Blending Brush to apply my foundation. I have been using the Miracle Complexion Sponge and my foundation applies like a dream.  I’m able to blend it out more evenly, the finish is “airbrush” like.  I have washed the sponge twice since purchasing it and although it holds onto a lot of water and cleaning solution, I found that a good day of air drying does the trick for a fully dry sponge. (keeping the sponge damp will cause bacteria to build up in the sponge.  Drying it in a well ventilated area will allow it to breathe).  It is very soft. Much softer than my previous sponge from ELF. (In full disclosure, I never purchased the original Pink sponge due to the price, so I can not comment on comparisons of my own experience).   I love the 3 different areas on the sponge as well.

Finial Thoughts:

I love these products from Real Techniques!  I love the story behind the creation of this brand as well.  Real woman, in the real world, making products that work!

Have you tried Real Techniques products?  What are your favourite brushes?  What should be my next purchase from this line?

Thanks beauties,

  1. I have SO many Real Techniques brushes and I love almost all of them. The setting brush is one that I use every day and I am even considering getting a back up due to it being in use all of the time.

Have you tried applying your loose powder under your eyes with a slightly damp sponge? It is absolutely incredible at setting the powder and not showing up the fine lines. I am 47 and I have never found anything that works as well as this technique.

So pleased that you are loving the range and good luck with any further purchases.

    1. Hi Fashionista in Suburbia. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I haven’t tried the stippling brush! I’ll have to give it a go. Does it leave a flawless finish? The bold metal collection is gorgeous! I’m trying my hardest not to order the whole set just to have on display! 🙂 Thanks again! Tal xo

  3. I bought the Eye Starter set ages ago & tbh, I only use 2 of the brushes in it (the shading + blending brushes). Out of the rest, I kept 1 (the tiny highlighter brush), I gave away another & the last one I threw out because I bent it. I was looking at getting the blush brush, but I’ve read mixed reviews about it.

    1. Hi Shell. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I recently picked up a few more with a travel case. I haven’t looked into the blush brush yet. I still use my ELF brush for that! Thanks again. Tal xo

  4. Terrific review Tal – you’ve convinced me that I should get both of these tools stat! I’ve been applying my foundation with my fingers for years as I haven’t found a better way to get the finish and evenness I want, but this just might be it, thanks so much ♥

    1. Hi Ingrid. Thanks for stopping by. I understand what your saying! That’s always in the back of my mind to. My sponge always seems to be dry when I go to use it the next day and I do give it a deep clean once a week. So far so good! Tal ❤
