My Unwanted, Expired and Empty Products from my Spring Cleaning

So as many of you may already know, the last few months I have been cleaning up my makeup and beauty products, getting organised and removing or using up what I have already that has been hiding or shoved to the back of the cabinet!

Take a peak at My Top 6 Tips for Organising Your Beauty Products and Spring Cleaning: My Makeup Collection to see how I got to this point.

I’m pretty good at getting rid of expired or unused items but there are still some things that I held onto thinking that I would use it up or need it at some point!

I had recently, last year, did a purge of products when it was getting out of hand…so this is just what I had accumulated or held on to from than.

Garnier Impurities Eliminating Scrub: This was my go to scrub that I used every weekend.  I was having a lot of breakouts and thought I needed to clean out my pores and wash away all the “dirt”.  This really didn’t do anything for me, except irritate my skin. I than read an article/blog post about how the little plastic beads in these types of scrubs do not break down and are polluting our waters…I stopped using it completely.

Garnier Body Repairing Lotion:  This was my go to, must have, bought it in bulk body lotion!  I still like it, and am using the last of it up now that I have dug it out of the back of the cabinet.  I wont be repurchasing this as I use either straight up coconut oil or one of my SeaFlora body lotions.

Pantene Defining Pomade:  I have had this kicking around since high school!  It’s been one of those products that “I might need again, or someone will use it” but it never happens. I’m over it and its getting tossed…Finally!

E.L.F. HD Concealer:  I bought this at the beginning of the year.  The colour is way to dark for me and it is the fair/light.  It is basically empty so I’m not even sure why I was holding onto it! Garbage and wont repurchase.

IMG_2986Baby Shampoo:  I was using this baby shampoo that I bought at my local dollar store to clean my makeup brushes and sponges.  I found it did the job until I could afford what I use now, which is Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Soap.  It does not compair to Dr. Bronner’s and is in the trash pile!

NYX Shine Killer Primer:  I am/was a big fan of NYX products. This primer worked for me when I was using the Maybelline Foundation. When I switched to an all Natural, Green Foundation, FitGlow Beauty, it started making me break out and irritated my skin.   Would I recommend it to my combo girls out there?  Yes!  But for me, it just is not serving its purpose any longer and needs to go.

E.L.F Makeup Mist: I loved this spray!  It was light weight, set nice and was a light mist when it came out.  It’s inexpensive as well, which is nice on the bank account!  Would I repurchase it? Yes. However, I am on the hunt for a greener item that does not have “rose hip” in it…Any suggestions?

Jergens Natural Glow Face and Body Lotion: I received the Face Tanning lotion in a beauty sample box and had already purchased the body lotion.  I burn to a crisp just thinking about the sun!  I do not tan, I burn.  I do not like to sun tan or go into the tanning beds, but have very fair, ghost like skin!  So I thought I would give this a go.  I set out with great ambitions and high expectations.  It did give a bit of colour and was easy to apply as it is just a tinted lotion.  I wouldn’t repurchase only because I am looking for a healthier, green and safer alternative to self tanning and giving my skin a nice sun kissed glow!  Any recommendations?

Victoria Secrets Pear Glace Body Butter: I received this as a Christmas gift from a girlfriend years ago.  It smells amazing!  It has a lot of shimmer in it though.  I’m not sure what her thought process was behind gifting me this, but it is apparent that she thought I needed a little sparkle in my life! It is so old that I would be afraid of putting it on my body. Toss!

Julep SPF 30 for Hands & Face: I use to be obsessed with nail polish.  I would change my polish twice a week, with my mood and if I was feeling ambitious, with my outfit for the next day!  I was signed up for the Julep Monthly Box for quite a while and this was one of the add-ons/new product at the time.  I thought I’d give it a go.  This one broke my face out and was greasy on my hands.  It was/ is a great product and I never burned while I wore it, however, once my skin started to reject it, I tossed it to the back of the cabinet and forgot about it.

Olay 7 In One: Olay. What can I say about this that everyone already doesn’t know?  They are truly the greats when it comes to drugstore skincare.  They have been around forever! Both of my Grandmas used/use them.  For me, I picked it up on a whim one day at my local drugstore. It was on sale. I got extra points (those points get me every time!) and I needed a new face cream.  The claims are amazing and I thought “why not, lets give it a go”.  I do love this product and found myself even after switching to my SeaFlora products, going back every once and a while when my skin needed a thick moisturiser.  It’s been far to long and is expired with half a jar left 😦 So out it goes.

Almay Smart Shade Primer: This was a great moisturiser.  Did it colour correct and prime my face?  I don’t think so…it’s hard to tell. I use to use and still actually have a full CC Cream from Almay.  I would use it under that.  I tried using it under my Maybelline and FitGlow, but it reacted to both of those and separated the foundations.

Have you tried any of these products?  What were your thoughts? Can you recommend a natural, green replacement for any of these products?

Thanks Beauties,

    1. Hi Lily! I know right?! It sure is bitter sweet. Hopefully you can clear out your collection and maybe still get some use out of some products. Tal do

  1. Congrats Tal! Doesn’t it feel good to have a ruthless cleanout? I did this a few weeks back and the bin was so heavy I could barely wheel it out for the collection. I’m trying to use up my stash before I buy one more thing – not making much progress, but I’m giving it a go ♥♥♥

    1. Hi Kats! Yes, it does feel good to get rid of stuff and make some room. I know the feeling! I’m on a spending freeze myself, but just caved last week and placed an order 🙂 oops!

    1. Hi Ingrid! Thanks for stopping by my post! I tend to hold onto products because I hate throwing anything away or wasting money! But sometimes, it just has to be done! Tal xo

  2. I haven’t tried anything here, but one product I can try & recommend for you in terms of tanning would be Eco Tan’s Winter Skin gradual tanning moisturiser, which would be suitable for your fair skin. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to get it in Canada since it’s an Aussie brand (I haven’t tried this personally, but I’d like to), but they do have a US website if you’re interested – us.ecotan.com.au
