101 Colour Correcting – NYX Colour Correcting Review

The Who, What, Where, Why and How of Colour Correcting!

Colour Theory states that the opposite colour (complementary colours) will cancel out each other creating a natural shade.

With that being said, Colour Correcting is the new buzzy beauty product of the moment. In theory, it works, but does it really?

Who:

Anyone can Colour Correct!  That’s the beauty of makeup!  You just have to find that product/brand that works for you and your skin (and your wallet!)

Many, if not all makeup brands have come out the a colour correcting product of some kind.  Whether it be a palette, pen form or a pot.  Liquid or powder.  They all do the same thing.

I have picked up the NYX Colour Correcting Palette for my own personal use. I have been testing it out for the past few weeks.  I will be adding a review at the end.

What:

Like mentioned above, colour correcting is used to cancel out a colour and bring it back to a natural colour (your skin colour).  So anything that you want to camouflage, hind, correct or conceal.

Where:

With all the different colours, you may be thinking, “It’s going to look like I’m wearing a Unicorn mask!” And well, you’re not too far off.  Every colour has a purpose and a spot on your face, it’s just all in the way you use them.

Why:

When you use concealer, you’re technically doing the same thing. You’re covering up something that you wish to hide.  Concealer on its own is a great tool, however, when you add the opposite colour to that “problem” area, you get a greater result than just “covering it up”.

How:

Now, here’s the fun part! There is a method to the madness.

101 Colour Correcting

Review:

Like I said above, I have had this for a few weeks and have been testing it out every day that I wear makeup.  Overall, I’ve been impressed with this palette from NYX.  I love NYX products and had read some great reviews on it. Even my ladies at my local drug store were raving about the NYX colour correcting palette.

I have problem skin, like many of us do. (click here to read my skincare routine and my favorite products). It is combination, with red scarring from acne and past skin issues.  I use the Green corrector the most.  I do use the Pink and yellow shades for my under eye area, although not to often.  I have used the Tan shade as a “normal” concealer and although I’m not fully into contouring, I have used the darker tan shade to test it out.

Overall, for the price, this palette is a win in my books.  However, I personally do not need all of these colours for correcting and in the future will purchase a single green colour corrector in pen form, like the Concealer Wand from NYX..  I like the versatility that this palette offers.  The product is creamy, easy to blend and has great pigmentation pay-off.

Final Words:

Yes, it is another step and product that is being applied to your face. Yes, it does work, if done correctly. Yes, you can for-go not colour correcting, but why would you!

So Beauties, have you tried colour correcting? What are your thoughts? Favorite brands? Palette or Pen form?  Let’s discuss in the comments!

Thanks Beauties,

    1. Hi Beth! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like this one because the product is so creamy and pigmented. As well as the many different concealer shades. I have been seeing “priceline” pop up on my instagram feed most recently. What is Priceline? Tal xo

      1. Priceline is the Australian version of Walgreen’s, I guess? Drugstore beauty, cosmetics, health stuff etc! If you’ve seen it a lot on Insta lately it’s because they’re currently holding one of their famous 40% off all cosmetics sale which is a big deal for Aussie beauty addicts!
