BeautyCounter: Review | Natural, Green Makeup

I love finding new beauty companies that offer Natural products.  BeautyCounter is an American Beauty Company that has just launched in Canada.  Lead by Women, for Women.  It is a direct sales platform that offers makeup, skincare, bath & body, and family products.

BeautyCounter Review | Natural, Green Makeup

The skin is our largest organ.  It absorbs what we put on it. When I started researching and switching to Natural and Green products, I found that in the United States there are 11 beauty ingredients that are banned.  In Europe there is over 1,400 banned!!!! What the what?!

BeautyCounter has a “Never List” which “is made up of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that we never use as ingredients in our products. This includes the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, plus additional chemicals screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern”.

I had never heard of this company until it started to pop up on my Instagram feed.  I was contacted by a director for BeautyCounter, Ally (you can find her on Instagram here) and she graciously provided a few items from the makeup line for me to test out and review.

Now, when I try a new brand/company, the first things I test out are always the mascara and lip gloss.  It’s like going to a restaurant and checking the washrooms or ordering the burger.  If they mess this up, you can forget about returning. (Anyone else do this at restaurants?)

I got my hands on the Lengthening Mascara in Black and Lipgloss in Dahlia.

Lengthening Mascara – Black:  The wand and brush are tiny compared to what I am use to! But it is very effective for my tiny lashes, especially the barely there bottom lashes 🙂  It goes on smooth, does not clump on my lashes, and is buildable.  The formula is “water resistant” and does not come of with a swipe of a cotton round and water.  It does come off nicely with makeup removing wipes or Micellar water but in my experience a good waterproof eye makeup remover would work faster.  BeautyCounter does have their own eye makeup remover that is recommended as well.

Lip Gloss – Dahlia: I struggled with which shade to pick.  Did I want to go safe and pick my go – to shade? Or hang on the wild side and go out of my comfort zone and get a bold shade?  After much debate and research online, I found that everyone was going mad for the Dahlia shade.  BeautyCounter was also promoting it as “it was coming back”. So I decided to “play it safe” and go with my go – to shade.  I am so happy I did!  It is super glossy without the sticky mess.  Lasts for hours on my lips and gives me just a hint of colour.  I have been reaching for this gloss for days.  I have worn it alone many times as well as over lipsticks or matte lip products.  I like the applicator as well.  It applies the product on evenly and holds enough that I only have to use what is on the tip.

BeautyCounter is Cruelty-Free and some, not all of their ingredients are Organic.

I do wish that BeautyCounter would advertise on their packaging that they are Cruelty-Free.  I personally had to go looking for that information on their website (FAQs).
